GBC ItaliaGreen Building Council Italia (GBC Italia) is a non-profit association which is part of the international network of GBC’s based in many other countries. It is a member of the World GBC and a partner of USGBC. Like all of these associations, it pursues the following goals:
- to promote and accelerate the widespread diffusion of the culture of sustainable building, leading the transformation of the market;
- to raise awareness among institutions and the general public as regards the impact that the methods used for designing and building property have on our quality of life;
- to offer unambiguous benchmark parameters for industry professionals;
- to encourage dialogue between industry professionals by creating a sustainable building community.
The partnership agreement between USGBC and GBC Italia permits it to promote and adapt the independent LEED® – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – certification system specifically for the Italian context. The parameters of this system contain clear-cut criteria for designing and building property that is healthy, energy saving and have a limited impact on the environment.
GBC Italia promotes a process to transform the Italian property market: the certification system associated with the LEED mark establishes a market value for “green buildings”, stimulating competition between firms in terms of the environmental performance of their buildings and encouraging a more aware approach among consumers to how they actually use energy. GBC Italia is an organisation capable of linking the most highly competitive firms in Italy and abroad in the sustainable building segment, facilitating dialogue between the most qualified professional communities. Italgraniti Group has always been proactive with regard to innovative technology that respects the environment, and is an official member of the Green Building Council Italia association.
