Mission and vision

An expansion designed with the highest standards of sustainability

Entered into operation in January 2025, the new Italgraniti Group production plant dedicated to large slabs represents a model of Industry 5.0 and is part of the broader project of a highly integrated production-logistics hub equipped with cutting-edge technologies.
The new production facility in San Martino in Rio (RE) covers an area of about 30,000 m², adjacent to the industrial structures that have been operating since 1994 within an area extending over 150,000 m². The new industrial site produces porcelain stoneware slabs up to the maximum size of 160x320 cm in thicknesses of 6, 12, and 20 mm.

A new concept of ceramic cladding

For product quality and production capacity, the new plant represents an extremely valuable industrial asset, positioning Italgraniti Group among the global leaders in the large slab sector. These slabs will benefit from two recent technological innovations that enhance surface realism and boost technical performance.
The first is RealUp®, a system that perfectly aligns ultra-high-resolution graphics with the micro-texture of the surface, giving the ceramic material an unprecedented richness and tactile depth. The second is “full-body vein”, a production process in which the decoration continues throughout the full thickness of the ceramic, eliminating the distinction between surface and body. This innovation sets Italgraniti apart from the vast majority of Italian ceramic manufacturers.

Technical and Aesthetic Superiority

At the plant level, the hydrogen-ready kiln, which reaches the extraordinary length of 230 meters, deserves special mention. It is a high-efficiency firing system with low thermal dispersion, allowing for gentler temperature curves and more balanced firing and cooling cycles. This prevents the slabs from developing hidden internal stresses, greatly enhancing their strength and workability. Moreover, thanks to the heat recovery system, the heat generated by the kiln is redirected to the drying and atomization systems. The selection line uses artificial intelligence to self-learn, continuously refining the reference models provided by the operator, control after control.

Sustainability at the Heart of the Project

A concrete example of environmental sustainability applied to the ceramic industry.

The advanced technologies implemented in the new plant meet the highest standards set by Industry 5.0: in addition to delivering significant economic benefits for both the Group and the local area, they will also generate substantial environmental advantages.

The production site will be self-sufficient in terms of electricity, thanks to the combination of a powerful photovoltaic system and a 5 MW cogeneration unit.
The solar plant alone, currently nearing completion, will be able to produce 3.4 million kWh per year at full capacity.
In environmental terms, this will prevent the emission of 1,800 tons of CO₂ annually — equivalent to the amount absorbed each year by a forest of 82,000 trees.

Through a virtuous production cycle, all process water and both raw and fired waste are recovered, significantly reducing the need for raw materials and contributing to a more circular and responsible supply chain.
